Not having access to popular shows and movies may make you feel left out. As your friends and family rave about the latest episode of their favorite show on HBO or the movies they can’t shove out of their minds, you’ll be left listening in from others with nothing to share. Consequently, you might go home wanting to know and feel what they do, and be able to connect to them, only to be snubbed by the thought of receiving a huge bill at your doorstep.

HBO is a household name. Children and adults alike enjoy the programming it offers, but viewing premium content comes at a cost and those working on a tight budget will find it difficult to pay to subscribe to.

HBO Subscription Cost

The company offers twin streaming services: HBO GO and HBO NOW, allowing you to watch your favorite shows on your handheld devices – your Android, iPhone, PlayStation 4, basically any HBO-compatible device. However, while HBO NOW is a standalone service that doesn’t require a cable subscription, HBO GO is not.

HBO NOW costs $14.99 a month. That might not seem too big an amount, but considering you’ll need the good internet to access the service, it can substantially increase your costs. HBO GO, on the other hand, requires you to subscribe to HBO first and to get that you need to pay for cable service. Having simply subscribed to cable TV will however not bring HBO programming to your TV screen, rather you will have to pay an additional sum to get the premium channel and that cost tends to range from $10-18 depending upon the provider you are connected with - albeit if you get a package, you might be able to save a few bucks.

With that said, it remains true that not everyone can afford these costs on a regular basis so if you’re looking for the cheapest HBO deals, then you’ve come to the right place!

YouTube It

HBO Cheapest Subscription Youtube

Free content available online may seem to limit, but considering these clips manage to cover the best of each episode, it’s worth considering. You can easily watch the best of Real Time with Bill Maher and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver online without paying a cent.

HBO posts plenty of clips from its shows on YouTube. If you are concerned about having to spend money, this is the cheapest way to view HBO programming. If you want the whole deal though, you could do a free trial and for seven days, live the dream!

Just continue reading and let us help you navigate your way through free trials!

7-day Free Trials

Managing your free trials is no easy task, but it’s your best bet. You get to watch the full episodes without having to open your wallet. If you choose this path to satiate your craving, you must keep two things in mind:

HBO

HBO Cheapest Subscription

Log on directly to HBO’s website and get a 7-day trial of their service. You’ll have unlimited access to all the shows and movies during the period, so make the most of it. At the end of the trial remember to cancel the subscription to avoid being charged.

Amazon Prime

HBO Cheapest Subscription Amazon Prime

Amazon too has a deal with HBO. If you want to catch up on HBO’s shows and movies on air right now, you can sign up for a free trial of HBO services through Amazon. You don’t need to have an Amazon subscription to do that. Simply sign up for a trial with Amazon Prime and add HBO to the mix.

On Prime Video you can access a great number of HBO shows. However, there is a high probability that HBO’s relationship with Amazon might end soon. There were rumors after HBO’s deal with Amazon expired in 2018, that the deal would not be renewed. As of yet, these are just rumors, however; you can still access HBO shows and movies through signing up for an Amazon Prime 7-day trial.

After the trial period is over if you still want to continue watching HBO, you’ll have to pay $14.99 a month on top of your Amazon Prime subscription fee.

If you’re a student, there is good news for you. You can use the email provided by your school to sign up. Once confirmed, you will be able to access Amazon Prime for 6 months free of charge.

Hulu

HBO Cheapest Subscription Hulu

A great streaming service in its own right, Hulu offers HBO as well. If you want to watch HBO without having to pay for it, you can get a 1-week trial with Hulu. To avail yourself of this, however, you need to have a Hulu subscription or sign up for a free Hulu trial.

Hulu typically offers a one-week trial free of cost; although at times you may come across a special for two weeks or even one full month. And you can add HBO to your account during the trial period.

At the end of the free trial you can cancel or if you like the service, you can enjoy it for the whole month before calling it quits. If the subscription fits your budget, you might want to keep it. You will, however, incur a cost of $14.99 a month for HBO in addition to the Hulu subscription fee.

PlayStation™ Vue Trial

HBO Subscription Playstation Vue

Another way you can gain access to all HBO shows and movies is by signing up for a 14-day free trial of Vue. Sony's PlayStation™ Vue, like Hulu, is another streaming service that offers HBO. You can sign up and test out three Vue plans on offer for free and stack on HBO’s free trial. However, while the Vue trial lasts 14 days, the free trial for HBO will end in 7. If you want to continue with HBO, you’ll have to pay $15 a month, besides the subscription fee for PlayStation™ Vue.

This is all good if you’re looking to binge-watch during holidays, but if you are an avid TV watcher, this won’t cut it. Don’t worry though, we’ve got you covered, just keep reading.

Negotiate with your Cable Service

If you have able service and you are willing to put in the effort required to bargain a lot of your dreams, you might be able to negotiate a free trial of HBO for three whole months!

Many providers tempt new subscribers into signing with them by offering HBO for free. If your provider follows this practice, you could succeed in getting them to offer you this deal as well. When you call them up, make sure you mention how expensive your cable plan is and what you’re considering switching to another provider. This works especially well if their competitor is offering free HBO as well.

There, that’s it. You can watch HBO for 3 months without having to pay a dime.

This gives you a free trial of HBO GO, which means you can stream shows to your handheld devices and watch them easily on your phone or tablet while commuting. And, you can also save your favorite HBO shows on your DVR, which will tide you over for another month or two.

After the trial is up, whether you continue with HBO through your cable service, or with HBO GO, you will be looking at around $15 a month on top of the cable subscription fee in order to continue viewing HBO programming. If you sign up for a package that includes HBO, rather than subscribing to one without it and adding it later, you might save some money.

Call in Favors, share an account

If you’ve run out of all your free trials you might want to consider sharing an account with friends or family. Ask them if they can add you to their HBO account or if you can use their login details when they’re not using the service. You might get access for free or you might have to pay a minimal amount; either way, this could prove the best deal for you.

Go for Select AT&T Unlimited Plans

If you have one of AT&T’s Unlimited plans, whether you have subscribed to video streaming service or not, you can get access to HBO for no additional cost. AT&T’s wireless customers, who subscribe to the Unlimited Elite plan, can get HBO free of charge.

If you are already subscribed to AT&T services, then you’re good to go because some select retired AT&T unlimited plans also include HBO. If however, you are planning to upgrade to the Unlimited premium plan, HBO will make for a great bonus.

You might want to check in with your provider if they also offer the same.

Still, Looking for Discounts for HBO?

HBO Subscription Discount

If that’s the case, we recommend you subscribe to AT&T's DirecTV Now streaming service. If you want, you can give this service a test run, but just so you know, HBO is not available during the trial period.
