The internet service types are very different between Mediacom and AT&T.
Xtream Internet powered by Mediacom, is
primarily delivered over a hybrid Fiber-Coaxial network. The 100% Gigabit Tech network is able to deliver

Some AT&T Internet plans come with a data cap―for
speed tiers below 100 Mbps, you get 1.5 TB of data every month. It is essentially unlimited from the viewpoint
of standard home usage―and quite in line with the lower speeds offered by these plans. AT&T Internet 100 and all
Fiber plans, however, offer unlimited data. Again, this is in line with the higher speeds and correlating
usage―fit for users who routinely stream high-res video or play online games.
On the other hand, all Mediacom Internet
packages, come with a data cap and the allowance tends to vary across the variety of plans. Depending on
which speed tier you sign up for, there is an allowance ranging from 300 GB to 3 TB. The higher the speed tier,
the more data you get―understandably so.
Mediacom Internet plans do carry a contract, the length of which may vary depending on your choice of plan. AT&T
however does not require you to sign an annual contract. The only thing is AT&T high-speed Internet offerings
are tied to a 12-month promo term, so if you cancel the promotional plan earlier, there is an early cancellation
fee. For the rest of the plans, which are exclusively Fiber, you pay on a month-to-month basis, starting from
the get-go, and stay free as a bird.
Mediacom charges you a one-time upfront installation
fee of up to $109 depending on your credit. If you are lucky, you maybe able to benefit from a limited-time
offer that gets you a discount. If you are tech savvy you can take the self-install route, albeit a one-time $10
service activation fee will still be applicable. The rental fee for the modem from Mediacom is $14/mo., and all
plans now include 1 eero Wi-Fi unit with eero Secure service. If you’ve a bigger house, you can include more
eero devices at $6/mo. each.
AT&T on the other hand offers standard installation for a
one-time upfront fee of $99, and there is a self-install option too. The good thing is AT&T gives you a high-end
Wi-Fi Gateway without an additional cost―there is no equipment rental every month which is definitely a
value-added service feature. If however, you need wall-to-wall Wi-Fi coverage, AT&T offers smart extenders as an
add-on.
As for the early termination fee (ETF) for AT&T, there is none with the Fiber plans, but with high-speed Internet
if you cancel before the end of the promotion term, there is a $10 charge for each month left in the service
agreement. On the other hand, you may have to pay up to $240 as an early termination fee for a 2-3 year
agreement with Mediacom, and up to $120 if it is a one-year agreement.
