The Truth about Xfinity Internet Data Allowance

During the pandemic, Xfinity went on a multi-month suspension of its usage-based data policy, and when it restored the data cap on residential plans, 200 GB was added to the pre-COVID data allowance of 1 TB. Now, in its central and western service regions, except for the multi-gig plan, all are capped at 1.2 TB. In the northeastern service region, however, the restoration of the data cap is reported to have been pushed back for at least 2022.

Xfinity Service Region Which States?
Central AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MI, MS, SC, TN
West AZ, CA, CO, KS, MN, MO, NM, OR, TX, UT, WA, WI
Northeast CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, PA, VA, VT, WV

Plans offered in its central and western service regions still have limited Xfinity Internet data, but the cap is higher at 1.2 TB per month. Just to put that in perspective this is 1200 GB worth of data for a single month - equivalent to over 500 hours of HD videos, 3500 hours of video chat, or 100 hours of gameplay in 1080p.

For most consumers with modest to standard usage, this is more than enough data to get through the month. If you go over your 1.2 TB data cap, Xfinity gives you a one-month courtesy waiver. You’re not charged an overage fee unless the instance is repeated in a 12-month period. Xfinity charges a $10 fee for every 50 GB block of data used in excess.

If you think your extensive usage is likely to cause a breach of the Xfinity Internet cap often, it would be wise to opt for an unlimited data deal.  There are a couple of ways you can do that.
