You just need to connect a modem or a modem-router to a phone jack, in order to access the internet. And that’s it! It sounds like a piece of cake, doesn’t it?

After you have signed up for self-installation, a technician will confirm if your address is indeed serviceable. And, if everything goes well, you will receive an Activation Date. On that day, a Windstream technician will visit your house to check the outdoor wiring, so that once you have set up your connection, you are able to connect to the Windstream network easily.
In case you have a tight schedule, you’ll be relieved to know you do not need to be home when the technician arrives to run a check. Once the preliminaries are all taken care of, your modem will be delivered to your house within 3-5 working days. You can now set it up on the given Activation Date.

First things first, unpack your self-installation package and check if you have all the power-packed equipment you need such as:
After you have double-checked the equipment and got everything you need, the next thing you have to do is find a suitable location inside your home to set-up the modem.
Even though putting the router at any spot within your home would work, but it’s always best to place it in a central location so that you can enjoy seamless wall-to-wall coverage.
This step is only applicable if you have a home phone service. In case you do, it’s always beneficial to add a DSL filter or splitter to the phone jack to keep signal disruptions at bay.
After you have plugged in the DSL filter or used a splitter, grab the gray phone line and connect it to the DSL port on the filter. Once that’s done, connect the home phone's wire to the other port on the filer.
Your Windstream Self-Installation kit comes with a GRAY phone cord. When your Date of Activation arrives, take out your Windstream modem from the box and carefully examine it to find a port that’s labeled DSL and fix the GRAY phone cord into it.
Now, grab the power adapter and connect it to the modem. Once that’s done, carefully plug the adapter into a secure electrical outlet.
While your Windstream Internet can be used to create a wireless network, carrying out a hardwired setup initially will allow you to have a reliable connection when you are activating your account.
