♪♫Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone on Valentine’s Day instead♪♫
Of course, we did not mean to ruin a George Michael classic. But, if you couldn’t find your soulmate on Christmas. Well, there’s always February 14th to take care of that.
Who says you can’t watch Christmas flicks on Valentine’s? You totally can. Especially with Prime Video by your side, you can even watch Halloween movies on Valentine’s Day. You do what you want to do Boo-Boo – you will not be judged!
This is where we warn you of the spoilers.
Last Christmas has a pretty-decent acting lineup. There’s Emilia Clarke, our beloved Emma Thompson, Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh. The movie revolves around Katarina ‘Kate’ (Emilia Clarke) who aspires to be a singer but things don’t go quite as planned. She works as an elf at a year-around Christmas store, run by Santa (Michelle Yeoh). One day, she notices a stranger outside Santa’s store, staring at something in the sky. Curious to find out what he’s looking at, Kate talks to him and learns that his name is Tom Webster. They hangout almost every evening after that.
In a bid to make things work, Kate signs up for another singing audition that is unsuccessful. Things plummet further as one of her oldest friends evicts her from her place. With nowhere to go, Kate returns to live with her mum Petra (Emma Thompson). A whirlwind of things happen during her stay. Taking a break from the chaos, she decides to go see Tom. Fast forward to the pivotal point, Kate decides to improve her life by doing good. Right before Christmas, while going to see Tom she discovers the heart-breaking truth about him.
Knowing that she would have to deal with the heart-breaking reality for the rest of her life, she tries to mend bridges between herself and her family. Tom may have been around Kate for a very short time, but she would never forget his advice to always ‘Look Up.’ Yes, you may have to keep a stack of tissues for some parts of this movie, but it all gets better in the end.
